Woodmere Elementary School
Challenge Solved
Over 150 zinc divider-circles, varying in size from 48″ to smaller, were created and integrated to complete the intended look of the final product. However, this combined with a significantly shortened delivery schedule made this project especially challenging.

After Hurricane Katrina caused significant facility damaged to Woodmere Elementary School, FEMA agreed to cover the cost of replacement and repairs. The project scope called for 70,000 square feet of 3/8″ epoxy terrazzo flooring including a monumental stair system with precast terrazzo treads. To accomplish the task, 11,000 linear feet of 8″ high epoxy terrazzo precast base was fabricated in the TM shop. Five terrazzo formulas containing 5% recycled glass aggregates were utilized to realize the designer’s intent to create a “confetti” look across the entire surface. Over 150 zinc divider-circles, varying in size from 48″ to smaller, were created and integrated to complete the intended look of the final product. As if this project wasn’t challenging enough, the difficulty was increased significantly by a shortened delivery schedule due to the overall project having been delayed prior to the terrazzo work commencing.
